Portuguese defender’s representative says permanent transfer to San Siro at the end of a season-long loan has not been discussed

Diogo Dalot is yet to start talks over a permanent Manchester United departure, the defender’s agent claims, with the Portuguese set to face his parent club in the Europa League with AC Milan.

The 21-year-old is on a one-season loan at San Siro, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deeming it surplus to Old Trafford’s needs.

Dalot is enjoying his time in Italy and looking forward to reuniting with the Red Devils on Thursday, but no discussions have taken place over extending a productive Serie A stay.

What was said?

Dalot’s representative, Carlos Gonçalves, said Calciomercato: “When he came to Milan, he knew he was coming to a great club with history and tradition, one of the best in the world. For this, he chose the Rossoneri.

“And when you play for a team like this, it’s normal to compete for the Scudetto. There is a great relationship with [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and the other teammates, he is happy in Milan.

“Thursday will be a very special game for him. He is currently a Milan player, on loan from Manchester United, but he wants to do well for his current club. If he played against another team, it wouldn’t have been different.

“At the right time, his future will also be discussed. He has to train his best and take every opportunity, the rest will be done by itself.

“There is no more contact now, but that’s normal. The focus is on the field. Later we will talk about it and see what happens.

How did Dalot behave in Milan?

The versatile defender has made 20 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions this season.

A debut goal for Milan was scored in a Europa League encounter with Sparta Prague in October, while their Serie A account was last opened in a 2-0 victory over Verona.

Dalot had only appeared in one game for United this season before heading to the exits, with this lone appearance in a Carabao Cup clash with Brighton.

He has made 35 appearances for the Red Devils in total, but has hasn’t been a regular at Old Trafford since being picked up from Porto by compatriot Jose Mourinho during the summer of 2018.
