Upon signing, Valentino Rossi said, “I am thrilled to join the WRT team for a full Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe program powered by AWS. Everyone knows that I have always been a big motor racing fan and always had an interest in racing on four wheels after my MotoGP career was over. Now I am fully available to dedicate myself to a high level motor racing program and with the right professional approach. The WRT team is exactly what I was looking for and I can’t wait to start this new adventure in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS with them.
Vincent Vosse, WRT Team Principal, said: “I’m sure a lot of fans will be as happy as we are that Rossi is starting a new career on four wheels and doing it in GT, with the WRT team and Audi. We all know how Vale is a great motorcycle champion and a sports figure, but above all he is a real racer and a very professional and competitive sportsman, eager to achieve as much as possible in the new challenge he has decided to raise. That’s exactly why we really wanted to work with him. The test we did in Valencia was extremely positive for both parties, in terms of technical feedback and working approach, and we took it from there. We warmly welcome Vale to the WRT family and I’m sure it’s going to be a very exciting experience for both of us.”
Rossi’s first official test dates with the WRT team are March 7 and 8, at Circuit Paul Ricard. The Endurance Cup season begins at Imola, while the Sprint Cup calendar kicks off at Brands Hatch on April 30. For more news and updates from the world of motorsport, stay tuned to evo India!
