At 11.4 kg *, the YT Izzo Uncaged is its lightest full suspension mountain bike to date. The previous lightest full YT sussser was the regular Izzo of around 12 kg. Since its debut as a 130mm bike, YT added a more rugged 140mm version last year and now here’s a 120mm downhill model with 120mm travel.

There will only be 300 released and in just one version the £ 5,999 YT Izzo Uncaged 7 which sports the RockShox SID Ultimate suspension and SRAM XX1 AXS stuff.

We really liked the original 130mm travel YT Izzo and can’t wait to sample the Uncaged Izzo to see if it gains anything in terms of travel and weight loss.

The geometry tables confirm that the Izzo mainframe remains the same Ultra Modulus Carbon construction.

The lower travel results in a lower shoulder strap position, a slightly steeper seat angle (77.5 ° / 77.9 °) and a slightly steeper head angle (66.5 ° / 66.9 ° depending on how you adjust the flip-chip of the rocker linkage).

YT states that the Izzo Uncaged is a “short-ride touring bike [that] is a rocket on XC-type terrain and in climbs ”. Which shows quite clearly where his bias may lie. That, and the fact that it’s Laser Yellow. Yellow bikes are always the fastest uphill.

Contrary to what some may think, the tag “Uncaged” does not mean more robust geometry or construction or radder, Uncaged simply means a limited production of unique constructions. In this case, 300 models which will be almost entirely sold in Europe and North America.

Despite the limited number, YT still offers the Izzo Uncaged in a range of five sizes (S, M, L, XL, XXL). Range figures range from a compact 434mm to a sprawling 517mm.

The XC-centric geometry and laser yellow paintwork of the YT Izzo Uncaged are backed up by a sleek specification that is also clearly aimed at XC racers who have yet to enjoy their Sunday shreds …

The trail-worthy RockShox SID Ultimate fork (35mm divers at first glance) and the SIDLuxe Ultimate rear shock can both be locked by a bar-mounted SRAM TwistLock Full Sprint remote.

Likewise, the “downcountry” brakes are 4-piston SRAM G2 Ultimates with 180/160mm rotors and carbon blades and titanium hardware.

Between the racing strips, the wheels and the cockpit pieces are to be brought back. DT Swiss XCR 1200 Spline wheels are shod with Maxxis Recon racing tires. The Race Face Next SL handlebars are made of carbon, weigh 167g and 740mm wide.
